FANUC's high speed SCARA robots are strong options for assembly, case packing, pick-and-place, and dispensing applications. SCARA robots stand out for their fast movement speed, and their design is optimized for top-down vertical-insertion processes.

From an integrator's perspective, here are some things to consider when choosing a FANUC SR SCARA model:

• Pneumatic Configurations:

  Some SR models are available with different pneumatic configurations. This is worth knowing before you buy, especially if your end-of-arm tooling will run on pneumatics — we'll specify the correct configuration when we receive your quote request.
  
  

• Cleanroom, Food Grade, and Washdown Options:

  Standard FANUC SR SCARA robots are not rated for cleanroom or food-grade applications. The SR-3iA, SR-6iA, and SR-12iA are available in Food Grade Option variants, rated ISO Class 5 for cleanroom use. The SR-3iA/U, SR-12iA, and SR-20iA are available in Environmental Option variants, rated IP65. Neither option is rated for true washdown (IP69K) — if your application requires true washdown capability, ask us about FANUC's stainless washdown-rated robots.
  
  

• End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) Weight:

  Payload capacity is a core factor in choosing the right SR model — and when calculating your required payload, it's essential to include the weight of your end-of-arm tooling. Leaving EOAT weight out of that calculation can result in an undersized robot that can't handle the task it was bought for.
  

• Mounting Options:

  Standard SR models mount to a pedestal or wall. A few variants support different mounting configurations: the SR-3iA/U mounts to the ceiling (with an Environmental Option version also available), eliminating the footprint of a floor pedestal in tight spaces, and the SR-9iA/R mounts to a rack for overhead work processes.
